Swimming State Competition

Congratulations to UISD swim team member Ayeesha Mohammed, who earned her way into the ranks of the 2013 Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (TISCA) Class 5A All State Swimming and Diving Team at the state meet this past February in Austin, Texas. Her time of 57.92 in the butterfly event landed her in 20th place overall in the state class 5A competition. Ms. Mohammed is also the only student from UISD to make it to this particular final roster (making it a District record) and the only freshman in the girls 100 Butterfly. “I am very excited with the news because I didn’t know that there was an all-state qualification. It made for a nice end of season surprise. I feel proud to have this opportunity to set the path for future swimmers. I have three more years of high school ahead of me and I want to have fun with this. I also want to help make competitive swimming a more recognized sport in Laredo,” said Ms. Mohammed.

Ms. Mohammed has been swimming competitively since she was eight years of age and has earned age group state titles since age eleven while swimming for the Laredo Nadadores Club. Ms.Mohammed is currently a freshman at J.B. Alexander High School. Her future plans include attending Princeton University and becoming a Pediatrician. “I want to thank my parents, my teammates and Coach Paul Kane who have been so supportive and helpful to me. I also want to thank Assistant Coach Maritza Gomez, who has helped me with swimming and adjustment to high school life” concluded Ms. Mohammed.

Grading Procedure

From the Principal

Dear Parents:

I would like to welcome students and parents to our Alexander family. With an enrollment of nearly 3000 students and new classrooms, we continue to face the challenges which help to make us the best high school in South Texas.

Because of our students, parents, faculty, staff and administrators we have a history of success. I hope to continue that tradition during my tenure as principal and look forward to working with you, your child, and your child’s teachers in order to make 2012-2013 the best school year ever. With your involvement and our enthusiastic staff, J. B. Alexander High School will continue to be the number one school in the district, the city, and the state.

Education is our number one goal. Our teachers are among the best trained in the state, and every member of our staff is available to accomplish this goal.  Our faculty members work to create a well-rounded, knowledgeable student who is capable of continuing his education throughout life. Students are encouraged to get involved in their education, thereby making school a place where they feel welcome and safe.

We also know that education does not stop when you leave the classroom. Athletics, band, and extracurricular clubs provide a balance to the academics. Coaches and sponsors give of their time and expertise in order to bring out the best in each participant. With your support, both at home and in the stands, we can create winners both in competition and in life, which is another goal.
