Swimmer Troy Gomez crowned 2024 Homecoming King at Alexander

Homecoming is a time to welcome back alumni and future alumni as schools hold the yearly event during football season. It is a tradition that seniors partake in, as organizations in the school nominate their candidates, with many athletes representing their respective teams.

On Saturday, Alexander held its Homecoming celebration and senior Troy Gomez was crowned the 2024 Homecoming King, becoming the first swimmer in the school’s history to hold that honor.

“I’m grateful for all my peers who voted for me and surprised since this is the first time swimming and diving has been represented in this fashion,” Gomez said. “I’m thankful for all my friends and classmates from various organizations who supported and celebrated this moment with me. This is a moment that I will never forget, and it has truly made my senior year.”

Gomez is a four-year varsity swim team letterman specializing in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley.

“Swimming has been a sport I’ve loved and been interested in since childhood with my obsession with water,” Gomez said. “Even though I’m not the fastest swimmer on the team, I stay dedicated to the sport by showing up to practices and giving it my all. Swimming isn’t just about the competitive aspect for me; instead, it’s the combination of both a desire to be in the water to relieve stress and my true enjoyment for swimming in general, whether it be for competitive or recreational purposes.”

Gomez and the Bulldogs head back to the pool on Nov. 15 when they compete at La Copa at the UISD Aquatics Center.
