Alexander beats United 24-14

For the first time in a long time, Alexander successfully beat its rival United, 24-14.

Alexander got on the board first with a field goal to take a 3-0 lead. Right on the kickoff, United fumbled, and Alexander recovered off the bounce. Running back Joe Fernandez capitalized and scored a touchdown.

The Bulldogs were not done; Fernandez scored another touchdown in the first quarter, extending the lead to 17-0.

United responded with a 10-yard touchdown to Jesse Garcia Perez to put some points on the board. Penalties pushed back a few drives for United, but quarterback Jorge Luna found his way into the end zone on a keeper before the end of the second half.

Before halftime, Fernandez scored his third touchdown of the game, making it 24-14.

The second half was filled with many penalty markers and not much great offense from either team. But when it mattered most, Alexander got the ball in the fourth quarter with 8:26 left, and United never had another possession. United missed a 36-yard field goal. Alexander did just enough to hold on and win.

The Alexander staff, on both sides of the ball had their team ready to play, especially the defense, who was able to shutdown pass heavy United.
