AHS Honors Wind Ensemble wins

On behalf of the music educators of the John B. Alexander High School Band program, it is with great pride and immense gratitude that I share with you a historic achievement by the 2025 John B. Alexander High School Wind Ensemble.

On Saturday, March 3, 2025, your musicians participated in the annual University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Wind Ensemble Festival. During this prestigious event, the ensemble performed three selections for a panel of expert adjudicators, several of whom are Directors of Collegiate Ensembles, who provided performance feedback and conducted a clinic following their presentation.

In a remarkable and unprecedented decision, every student within the ensemble was awarded the UIL Outstanding Soloist Award—a distinction traditionally reserved for individual performers who demonstrate superior musicality, technical mastery, and expressive command of their instrument. For the first time in our history, the award was presented collectively to an entire ensemble. This decision was made in recognition of the complexity of the literature performed and the exceptional, unified execution demonstrated by each musician on stage.

This moment is not only a testament to the dedication and talent of our students but also to the support, collaboration, and educational excellence upheld across our campus. It is a victory for our school community and a celebration of the transformative power of music education.

Thank you for your continued encouragement and support of our musicians and fine arts programs. We look forward to continuing to represent John B. Alexander High School with the same level of excellence in all future endeavors.
